He likes cooking. She likes eating. She's a Mac. He's a PC. She watches Bachelor. He watches The Walking Dead. He does the dishes. She does the laundry. She was homeschooled. He was not. She's a product of the 80's. So is he. Their style is mid-century modern mixed with IKEA and handcrafted Amish. They love God. They love each other. They love Simon and Betsy. They are blessed.

Simon Joseph Herschberger: Week 34

We dropped Simon off in the infant room at church last week, and picked him up in the crawlers room! He had been promoted! He is a mover and a shaker. :)

Last 2 days with Dani: We got to spend Monday and Tuesday with Dani before she started 1st grade on Wednesday! On Monday we painted nails, had lunch with Gigi, Aunt Tami and cousin Courtney, and did some cooking. Tuesday we went to the flea market in Shipshewana, phew, that was exhausting. It was a good time though and Dani got birthday presents for Stacy and Uncle Kyle, and a present for her teacher!

“Uncle Jared”: Kyle’s best friend Jared was in town and stopped to see us on Monday. Always good to see “Uncle Jared”. :)

Curious Simon: Little man is so curious, LOVES anything new, and loves checking stuff out. Kyle had the dishwasher open one morning and Si made a beeline from his play area to check it out. He is obsessed with the printer, which I really just need to move up a shelf. I’ve been meaning to babyproof but haven’t done much other than put outlet covers in. I need to put the printer up and do something about outlet strips and cord, those are the only things he’s been going for so far. I might eventually need to clean off bottom shelves and lock some cupboards, but so far we’re OK and I’m always with him.

Teething: I hate saying he’s teething because I really don’t know if he is, but it’s my best guess. On Wednesday night he went to bed fine and then woke up at 9:30pm screaming. He was unconsolable, so very tired and would put his paci in and suck for a second and then pull it back out screaming. Eventually I gave him Tylenol and after he settled down I sat with him for awhile and then put him to bed and he slept 8.5 hours! I was worried it was going to be a rough night but it really wasn’t. He’s been fussy and seemed like he was in pain other times too this week.

Baby Led Weaning: Simon’s food is overtaking our fridge and freezer, haha, not really, but he does have quite a smorgasbord! New this week is meatloaf and frozen yogurt dots, he loves both of them. Oh, and some muffins that he was not into at first, but then ate toasted with butter and now will eat plain. In the freezer there are a couple different purees frozen into ice cubes that I thaw and use in recipes or in popsicles, there are also the frozen yogurt dots and the popsicles. In the fridge he has muffins, tuna croquettes, meatloaf, sweet potato fries, zucchini fries, melon, pea fritters, black beans, and strawberries. Also, update to last weeks difficulty breastfeeding, he is back to normal, breastfeeding great, and going longer between feedings. He likes to stick a finger in his mouth while he’s nursing, but his sharp nails hurt me!

CIRCUS: A circus came to town! They set up over at the Essenhaus for two shows on Saturday so we went to the 5pm show with Lee and Stacy and Dani. Simon was fussy off and on during the first act so during intermission we went to the car and nursed and changed his diaper and put him in his carseat and he LOVED the second half of the show. Paid attention a lot of the time and played with his toys the rest of the time! We all really enjoyed the circus, such a good show!

Daddy’s birthday: Kyle turned 32 on Sunday! He shares a birthday with our sister-in-law Stacy so we went over to Grammy and Poppy’s for a yummy birthday lunch, presents, and dessert. Dani and I picked up a fun cake mix at ALDI and we made it on Saturday night after the circus, it turned out great!! Simon was overdue for a nap by the time we went over for lunch but he wanted to stay up and party so after a short nap attempt I got him back up and he partied it up. When we got home and laid him down he conked out pretty fast, with his legs sticking out of the crib up over the bumpers.

Weight: We didn’t get him weighed this week, too busy and I’ve been doing every other week.

Clothes: 3-6 month, lots of 6 month, 6-9 month and some 9-month. 9-month pajamas!

Diapers: Cloth diapers during the day (BumGenius Freetime), size 3 disposables when we’re out and about, and size 3 Luvs with NightLock at night.

Firsts: (1) You’ve figured out how to go from sitting to scooting, for awhile after you figured out how to sit up you would get “stuck” sitting up and eventually get frustrated but now you know how to get out of it! Next up, learn how to go from scooting to sitting! (2) You won’t stay on your back in the tub, you like scooting around in there and daddy makes it lots of fun! (3) First rough possible teething episode - about an hour and a half of screaming, once the Tylenol kicked in you slept 8.5 hours solid. (4) First time fussing when mommy left you somewhere.

Toys: I gave you some tupperware to play with one day and you loved it! Anything new is very exciting. :)

Sleep: Most nights this week you slept from 7-1ish, then after a feeding you slept until 6:30am, then played quietly in your crib till 7ish. The night you had a screaming fit from 9:30-11 you then slept from 11pm-7:30am.

Likes: Getting into stuff :) and bathtime! Best ever!

Dislikes: Diaper changes, ugh… you just want to flip over and you get so mad.
