Simon Joseph Herschberger: Week 24-25

2 busy weeks, camping both weekends, a difficult goodbye to my parents, and the first week of having my nieces over one day a week.

Camping in Jonesville: We went up to my hometown in Michigan the first weekend in June for my dads ordination! He sat in front of the council on Saturday morning and the church voted and he was ordained on Sunday morning. I am so proud of him and one of my favorite parts of the weekend was hearing my parents talk about their ministry in Argentina. We got to spend time with some people very special to us — Saturday dinner at the Howards, Sunday lunch at the Metts and camping both nights in Dan and Jenny’s yard. Simon was lots of fun although I was exhausted by the end of the weekend. One of the nights he did NOT want to go to sleep but I am learning to go with the flow more and trust that he will eventually go to sleep. :)

Sad goodbye: On Tuesday my parents left to go back to Argentina and it was so hard to say goodbye. It gets harder every time and I guess it’s because each time they’re missing more while they’re gone. They are going to try to go to California next spring to meet their granddaughter (my niece) who will be born in August and we’re hoping we can go at the same time and be all together! I’m so thankful or the time we had with them and think it’s pretty cool that they got to be here for Simon changing so much!

“Aunt Tina day”: School is out for the summer and my nieces schedule involves rotating between their grandmas and me! I get them on Wednesdays (unless we switch days) and I am so excited!!! They’ll get dropped off around 7:10am and the first week I fully expected to be up and at ‘em but Si had nursed around 5:30am and was still sleeping and Kyle was in the shower so they were left out in the rain, oops! But once we were all upstairs and inside we had a good time. :) They LOVE playing with Simon and whenever he would wake up from a nap we would all go in together and get him up. When he was napping we worked on some Father’s Day presents.

Haircut: I have been really frustrated with my thinning postpartum hair. When I do spend time on it I don’t love the way it turns out and it doesn’t hold the style for long at all. I HATED it in a ponytail but have also hated having it down on a hot day. So, I’ve been thinking about chopping it off and got serious about it on Wednesday and started looking at haircuts online. On Thursday I made an appointment, took Si over to Grammy’s and got my hair cut off! It’s taking time to get used to of course and I’m learning how to style it but I really like it. I don’t look in the mirror and think it’s like the best hair ever but it really works for this stage of my life and I love that I can do it, it looks good, and it stays looking good all day, I don’t even think about it the rest of the day!

Camping at Grammy & Poppy’s: This past weekend I had a busy day Friday with a photoshoot until 7pm in Winona Lake and Kyle had to work a show at the fairgrounds on Saturday so we opted to just camp Saturday night over at Kyle’s parents! They already planned to camp because Dani was spending the night and she wanted to so it was perfect! Kyle’s H.S. classmate Amber (who is also a cousin to him) and her family live across the street and they came over for a campfire. The kiddos had a great time playing and we had fun chatting around the campfire!

Father’s Day: On Father’s Day we went to the Evil Czech Brewery in Mishawaka for brunch. YUM. It was awesome food and lots of fun to be with everyone. The girls and Si had done handprints on a special present for Poppy and I had gotten Kyle some liquors, a measuring shot glass and fun socks!

Trying to crawl: Simon is so funny with trying to get around and reach different toys. He wriggles and rolls and pulls his knees up and scoots with his head along the ground. Cracks me up!

Weight (on Tuesday, on the digital scale at moms group): 13lb 11oz and 13lb 13.5oz

Clothes: 3-month and 3-6 month stuff, a few 6-month onesies and all 6 month PJ’s

Diapers: Cloth diapers during the day (BumGenius Freetime), size 2 Luvs with NightLock at night, and disposable size 2’s on the weekend when we’re camping!

Firsts: (1) The foot made it into the mouth. (2) You have been resting your head on mommy’s (and other people’s) arms/shoulders and you never use to do that unless you were falling asleep - the beginnings of hugs maybe? (3) You’re holding yourself up better and better, which means you can play in the exersaucer for longer and you’ve been doing this funny thing where you don’t want to sit back in your swing and just lean forward awkwardly the whole time. (4) I tried giving you a frozen grape in a mesh feeder and it was a BIG HIT! I also gave you apricot and pear that you loved, peach that wasn’t ripe enough and you didn’t like it, and I gave you a carrot and celery to lick and you weren’t into either one at all.

Toys: You aren’t picky, you just want whatever toy is just out reach, haha.

Sleep: Still getting up 2-3 times a night but you go down very easy most nights, we get you ready for bed, pray with you, sing to you, lay you down and walk away and within a few minutes you’re out. You’re also becoming a better napper, if I feed you, keep you up for an hour and then lay you down you typically sleep for 45-60 minutes, if I feed you, keep you up for over an hour and then feed you again before laying you down you sometimes sleep for 90-120 minutes, still trying to figure out what best works but not really stressing about it. :)

What has mommy been reading about: How many calories are in a grape, short hairstyles

Likes: Frozen grapes, you love them! I put them in a mesh feeder and bite them a couple times and you gum them and suck on them.

Dislikes: You FREAK OUT when you run out of frozen grapes and still want more. You get all twitchy and fussy until we come back with more grapes for you.
